2003年11月，吐瓦魯領導人在一份聲明中，他們對抗海平面上升的努力已告失敗。
鎮守南洋九島環，冰融海漫破防關。
龍王猛水珊瑚佔，故土何時伴淚還。

註：位於南太平洋，由9個環形珊瑚島群組成，由於全球氣候變曖，導致極地冰川融化、上層海水變熱膨脹， 引起了全球性海平面上升現象。使海拔極低的島國吐瓦魯日漸沉沒，該國居民將逐步撤離。
