《蝴蝶蘭》 (七言絶句，押先韻)

蝴蝶蘭華萬種妍，
幽香璀璨淨心田；
紅頭白后兒孫孕，
翩翩芯芯彩滿天。

備註：
1.漢人最早以閩南語音譯紅頭嶼或紅豆嶼，日治時期以後固定紅頭嶼之名。1947年因島上盛產蝴蝶蘭而改名。西方國家早年稱蘭嶼為「Botel Tobago」。目前有些英文網站與電子地圖稱它為 「Koto island」（源自Kōtō，『紅頭』的日語音）或是「Orchid Island」（意為蘭花之島，此即蘭嶼的意譯）。

蝴蝶蘭其名 Phalaenopsis，是由希臘文的 phalaina（蛾）與opsis（形象）共同命名而來，形容其花型有如蝴蝶一般，其開花時，花莖下垂成弓形，微風吹動有若群蝶飛舞。國人對蝴蝶蘭的花型與花色皆十分喜愛，故稱蝴蝶蘭為「蘭花之后」。台灣是白花蝴蝶蘭的原產地，由於所有蘭花中純白的品種極為稀少，因此白花蝴蝶蘭在世界蘭花中佔有一席之地。台灣原生種白花蝴蝶蘭(P. amabilis，俗稱台灣阿嬤），在民國40年代曾連續兩年奪得國際蘭展的冠軍獎盃，使得台灣阿嬤聞名國際。

台灣阿嬤
學名: Phalaenopsis amabilis
1879年在蘭嶼發現並採集台灣白花蝴蝶蘭(台灣阿嬤)，台灣阿嬤在蝴蝶蘭白花育種歷史上占有重要地位。許多育種專家將台灣阿嬤與其他品種蝴蝶蘭交配後，大量育出許多各式各樣的新品種，就像阿嬤生下很多子孫一樣。

在台灣蝴蝶蘭有另一個學名為Phalaenopsi amabilis var.aphrodite（Reichb. f.）Ames，阿嬤這個名字便是來自amabiles的前兩音節。藉其名隱喻生長在台灣阿嬤們的堅毅．純潔的精神。 </font>
